The University of Calcutta also offers students a wide range of facilities regarding the study of different languages, such as, Bengali, Arabic, Chinese, Germany, French, Hindi, Pali, Persian, Russian and Urdu. Students can apply to take admission in the certificate or diploma courses, offered on these subjects. Admission Procedure in courses offered by Calcutta University:

University of Calcutta follows very strict guidelines for admission in both graduate and post graduate level programs. Selection of the students is done completely on the basis of marks, which they have attained in the previous examinations. Once all the applications are submitted, then the admission authority of the University of Calcutta prepares a merit list on the basis of marks obtained by the applicants. The requirement for minimum marks to apply for desired subjects may vary from department to department. But it has been observed that for Arts and Humanities, students having 45%-50% marks become eligible to apply and for Science subjects the requirement of marks become 50%-55%.
